Content

The course offers an introduction to interdisciplinary research. This involves principles and practical examples of developing research questions from an interdisciplinary perspective and how to frame research projects regarding e.g. concepts and methodological approaches. The course will also address the need of interdisciplinary research to contribute to solving societal challenges.
The course consists of lectures, seminars and in particular guided discussion of papers and lectures of invited guest speakers.

Previous knowledge expected

No specific previous knowledge is expected. But the course addresses PhD-students, in particular PhD-students of the BOKU-Doctoral School "Human River Systems in the 21st century".

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Upon completion of the course, participants are able to
* understand major principles of interdisciplinary research
* frame interdisciplinary research questions and approaches
* discuss research questions and methodological approaches of different (selected) scientific disciplines
