Content

One part of the course deals with Bioinformatic approaches in Plant biochemistry and Cell Biology. Several online tools and data resources are represented and their advantages and limitations illustrated by means of examples. The lecture is interspersed with interactive sessions.

Other parts of the course deal with different topics of plant cell biology and biochemistry including for example protein trafficking in the secretory pathway, protein quality control and posttranslational modifications of proteins.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

-The students will gain an overall understanding of the merits of bioinformatic analyses in plant science.
- He/she will understand the meaning of model organisms in basic and applied research.
- The students will be able to retrieve sequences of genes or proteins of interest, to identify related sequences in diverse plant species, to predict possible regulatory motifs, modifications and subcellular localisations.
- He/she will know how data obtained from in silico analyses can be used to design more targeted experiments in the laboratory.
- The students will be aware of different cellular trafficking processes and of methods to study these processes.
- The students understand the advantages and disadvantages of protein targeting to different subcellular compartments.
- The students will be familiar with methods to manipulate the intracellular trafficking of proteins and metabolites.
