Content

Fundamental importance of grassland in relationship to farmers´income,

fodder production for horse breeding, to managed landscape, to

conservation of biodiversity as well as to the natural resources soil,

water and air. Focus on variety and different utilisation forms of

grassland in mountain areas and on production factors. Analysis of

phytocenosis, plant arts and plant associations as well as of fodder

production and quality under different management systems. Particular

focus on grassland restoration, selection of fodder plants and

composition of grassland seed mixes for horse meadows, pastures and

field folder production. Fodder conservationand fodder quality

assessment are important contents and show the contact points to horse

feeding.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Teaching the importance of Austrian grassland to mountain farming and

horse breeding in fodder production and conservation of a cultivated

landscape with valuable plant and animal associations. Complete insight

into ecological farming in nutrient cycles and nature resource

management in the alpine area. Specific knowledge about farm management

in location adapted fertilisation, utilisation and conservation of

meadows, pastures and field folder cultivation. Recognizing the

influence of management on biodiversity fodder production and quality,

as well as the complex relationships between horse breeding and nature

cycles.
