Geodetic coordinate systems in Austria - calculation and transformation of coordinates - basic terms of the methods of adjustment - methods of geodetic point measurements: e.g. traversing, triangulation - methods of height measurments - measurements and calculation of areas.

Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The aim of this lecture is to give the students an understanding of surveying theory. They should also learn about standard surveying equipments. Methods of surveying and computation of results are presented. Emphasis is placed on accuracy of measurements and valuation of errors, since these are important criteria for choosing an appropriate method in the practice. The lectures aim to provide the information and skills needed for this particular decision-making process.

The students should also gain practice in the numerical processing and evaluation of information derived from basic surveying techniques typically used in civil engineering. They should also gain a basic understanding of the use of public available planning documents (e.g. available control points, real estate data base, cadastral and topographic maps)
