Content

Interaction of plants with their environment and adaption to changing

environmental conditions are shown in various examples. Suitable model

systems for the investigation of biochemical process in plants,

plant-environment interaction : biochemical adaptions; C3-C4 plants; acid

metabolism of Crassulaceae, Temperature (high, low, flooding, drought, soil

(selenium, heavy metals), salt (chlorids, sulfates) environmental poisons,

plant-animal interactions (pollination-flower colour; damage protection,

odorous compounds, pheromones), plant-microorganism ineraction

(phytoalexins, pre- and postinfectional compounds), plant-plant interaction.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Introduction of students into plant biochemistry with special emphasis on

ecological aspects. Students will get an overview of main metabolic

pathways, their use in relevant scientific and technical problems and

knowledge in which way novel pathways may be elucidated on the biochemical

and molecular biological level. The lecturer places special emphasis on

active participation of students in the lecture. Thus, not only basic

knowledge is imparted but also it's practical application in future

scientific and /or professional work is trained.
