Content

The course will provide an introduction to the use of the scripting language Perl. The basic terminology and the concepts behind Perl will be explained, such as variable assignment, using operators and control structures, and creating and manipulating lists, arrays, and hashes. Students will learn these concepts by means of programming exercises.

Previous knowledge expected

Bachelor students planning to enroll in the LBT Master are encouraged to take this course, in particular those students who intend to specialize in bioinformatics.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The increasing complexity of research in the life sciences field demands for knowledge of a scripting language for data processing and analysis. In the context of this course, students will learn the principles of the scripting language Perl. Students should be enabled to write their own Perl scripts.
