Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The successful completion of the course supplies the students with the basic knowledge about the biology of weeds and the occurrence of important species as well as their habitat characteristics. The students are able to understand habitat characteristics, arable crop, cultivation methods and reaction norms respectively adaption strategies of the weeds as an interactive system. The specific part, in which species, habitats and adaption strategies are demonstrated, allows recognition of species in the field, in particular in combination with the offered course 831.282 “Excursion to the biology of weeds”.
The students learn facts, terms and system interrelationships, which allow understanding and explaining present weed situations on cultivated fields. Concrete instructions on how to act in order to avoid weeds (management of weeds), but also to support weeds (conservation) in Austria´s agricultural landscape can be formulated.
