Content

The lecture deals with possibilities to classify, parameterise and evaluate statistical growth models. Known statistical growth simulators will be demonstrated. Forest Research usually tests different ways of stand treatments in long-term field experiments. Thus it happens frequently that then, when the first results from the experiments are available, silviculturists already have new and very different ideas how to treat stands properly. In order to more readily provide answers to silvicultural questions concerning growth and yield, depending on stand treatment, "statistical" forest growth models or management models have been developed. The lecture will deal with the classification, parameterisation and validation of such growth models. Different forest growth simulators will be demonstrated.

Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The course will facilitate the knowledge about statistical forest growth models, how to use and to evaluate them. The aim of the lecture on forest growth modelling is to provide the students with knowledge on existing growth models, how they work, how to apply and how to validate them.
