One excursion day will introduce the study area and soil will be classified with common field methods. Soil samples will be collected for main soil characterisation in the laboratories. Obtained results will be interpreted and discussed in respect to research hypothesis.

Previous knowledge expected

Fundamental knowledge in soil science

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Graduate students
- understand the variability of soils in the landscape;
- explain soil properties on a soil profile;
- know usual field and laboratory methods of soil science and can apply them;
- deduce soil ecological traits and functions from soil characteristics;
- valuate soil ecological traits and functions;
- develop a sampling design for specific research questions in soil science
