Content

introduction to the course by mens of selected case studies;
content silviculture:
basic silvicultural knowledge for mountain forest management with focus on Eastern Alps; silvicultural systems, basic silvivultural techniques, silvicultural decision making, relationship between forest conditions, silviculture and disturbance factors (e.g. storms, bark beetles).
content forest protection:
overview on important abiotic and biotic disturbance factors, impacts, biology and epidemiology; basic protection measures, identification of improtant pest and desease organisms.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

silviculture:
students know basic silvicultural techniques with a focus on mountain forests and protective functions. students are able to solve standard planning situations. students know
forest protection:
students have an overview on relevant pest and desease organisms and a proper understanding of pathological processes in mountain forests; students have proper diagnostic knowledge regarding important desease and pest organisms; students know about basic forest protection measures.
students know about interrelationships of forest conditions, silviculture and selected disturbance factors (e.g. storms, bark beetles).
