The course aims to widen the awareness of the students about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations as well as to explore the role of animal breeding in this context. The tasks will involve group work at BOKU, with a unique aspect related to the SDGs and a potential contribution of animal breeding.
At the end of the semester a final online meeting will be held with students at SLU (Sweden), NMBU (Norway) and AgroParisTech (France), who worked on parallel projects related to SDGs. At the final meeting students discuss their views and experiences on the SDGs, from the aspect they studied throughout the semester.
The majority of the coursework is done individually, or in groups, developing the group project, that is determined at the beginning of the semester. Apart from the fixed meetings, at least one other meeting with each group and a final BOKU meeting takes place, where each group presents their results.

After the completion of the course the students will be able to interpret the position and importance of animal breeding in relation to the SDGs. They will work on exercises in workgroup dynamics and aim-oriented working plan activities. Apart from the academic improvement of students the transversal skills will be also improved, as well as the students’ awareness and sense of responsibility in the global society.
