Gravitational mass movements, including landslides, are naturally or anthropogenically caused geomorphic processes contributing to the reduction of inequilibria in the relief, caused by tectonic, volcanic, anthropogenic or other processes.
If landslides occur in populated areas, or if they may interfere with people or infrastructures, they represent significant geological hazards. The risk for a human, a town, a road etc., however, does not only depend on the natural process, but also on the exposed values or people and on the vulnerabilities.

The participants shall bring with them some basic geologic and geomorphological knowledge.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

This lecture shall assist the students in better understanding the complex and multifaceted phenomenon "mass movement", with special emphasis on landslides.
