Content

This year's course is dedicated to the topics of urban redevelopment and land thrift (i.e. reduction of land take for development) by means of spatial planning and land policy.

The course consists of a lecture part with topic-relevant inputs as well as a seminar part.

In the lecture part, inputs are provided on the following topics:
- Sustainability challenges in spatial development
- Urban redevelopment strategies
- Land policy - basic concepts and current challenges
- Land policy instruments

In the seminar part students (in groups of two) write and present a seminar paper on selected strategies and instruments of urban redevelopment and land thrift guided by the lecturers. The seminar papers are based on evaluation and analysis of relevant international scientific literature.

Previous knowledge expected

Course for master students or phD-students! Knowledge of the courses "Spatial Planning" (Lecture) and "Projects in Spatial Planning" (Project work) is very recommended.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students know values and objectives of sustainable spatial development and are able to assess potentials and restrictions of strategies and instruments of spatial planning and land policy with regard to urban redevelopment and land thrift. In the seminar part, students consolidate their ability to independently study literature and expand their skills in the evaluation of scientific readings.
