Fundamentals of thermodynamics and refrigerating processes - cyclic processes - construction of cooling plants - direct and indirect cooling - compression refrigerating process - absorption refrigeration process - adsorption refrigeration process - gas chillers - electro-chemical refrigeration- magnetothermal refrigeration - system components of refrigeration systems - refrigeration applications in food technology - cooling requirements for food cooling and cooling logistics - heat pumps - Applications of refrigeration in the area of food technology and industry

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The course generates an understanding for the processes of refrigeration and the use of refrigeration in industry, trade and household with observation of environment-relevant effects. Furthermore the possibilities of the refrigeration with regenerative energy systems are discussed.
They understand the concepts of "temperature", "heat", "energy", "heat flow", "power", "cooling capacity" and "coefficient of performance".
They can explain different technical options for refrigeration, with their advantages and disadavantages.
They understand thermodynamic principles of refrigeration and know limiting factors.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
