Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Following the completion of this lecture on crop nutritional physiology, the students will:
•explain the detailed mechanisms involved in the selective uptake of mineral nutrients by plant roots;
•describe the biochemical and physiological functions of macro- and micro- nutrients;
•identify the deficiency symptoms of mineral nutrients in a wide range of crop plants;
•define root architecture and explain the relationships between root architectural traits and acquisition of mineral nutrients;
•apply the acquired theoretical knowledge on crop nutritional physiology to analyse quantitatively the options for improving nutrient-use efficiency in crop plants.
.
