Content

The course will use a combination of student presentations and group discussions of assigned readings to understand agricultural landscapes. The assigned texts revolve around various concepts that are important in farmland ecology and include both ecological and methodological approaches. Students will develop their own presentations based on the assigned texts in order to improve their understanding of scientific papers and their communication skills. The students will be supervised by the respective teachers of the chosen topics who will assist the students in case there are questions concerning the assigned texts. Through the subsequent group discussions, scientific reasoning is practiced and contexts between different topics are established. Specific topics included (but not limited to) are:

●Ecology of farmland soil
●Biodiversity, invasive species, and ecosystem services
●Global change
●Citizen Science

Additionally, the course will give the students a broad view of what ecological research in farmland can be and what kind of topics are currently discussed in academia.
