Content

This course seeks to help young researchers to publish their data in (inter-)disciplinary manuscripts. The course offers strategies along the road to submitting a paper, from the choice of a suitable journal to the construction of a story line, the selection of an adequate language style/register, or - the most difficult task of all - reducing content. A particular emphasis is placed on learning to receive and give feedback. We will practice a few techniques to overcome the barrier of starting to write, techniques of how to continue, and to tackle with time restrictions or interruptions. We will use examples of good and not-so-good papers as well as own papers and peer-review by the participants.

Previous knowledge expected

Proficiency in English is required.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students have reflected their own reading and writing skills and identified their talents and challenges. They have gained some practical experience in critical reading and analysis of texts as well as in writing (small parts of) scholarly texts. They are better able to make informed decisions about publication venues and necessary investment into preparing a successful publication.
