Content

This course will give an overview on the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, with focus on the Illumina and Pacific Biosciences sequencing platforms. Topics covered will include data file formats, data filtering, read mapping, genome assembly, variant discovery, and others. Analysis strategies will be explored using test data sets as well as real data.

Previous knowledge expected

Students should be familiar with Linux shell commands and with working from the command-line terminal. The courses "Computing skills for biotechnology" or "Essentials for bioinformatics data analysis" will cover the required skills.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will get familiar with applications of "next-generation" sequencing technologies and data analysis strategies.
