Content

Lab class covering methods in Conservation Genetics and related scientific fields. The class will focus on Genotyping using Microsatellites for palnts or animals and their population genetic analysis. Typical analysis consist of DNA isolation and quality control, PCR amplification of microsatellite markers and their detection on a capillary sequencer. Resulting chromatograms will be transformed into a dominant matrix, containing the allelic state of each marker. This matrix will be used for analysis with basic population genetic programs. In addition procedures for investigations of sequence based markers using Sanger and NGS sequencing methods will be presented, as well as the procedure for marker screen.
The lab will be complemented by a lecture about the background of the applied laboratory and analysis methods.
The class will be held as block in the laboratory of INF, time and duration by arrangement.

Previous knowledge expected

The lab is designed for Master or advanced Bachelor students from biology derived programs

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students will be able to perform a typical genotype analysis to test for population structure and genetic diversity.
