In this course, students will learn the basics of programming and will gain understanding of data types, data structures, operators, control structures, and functions. In the practical part, students will write code in Perl and Python.

Since we will run our code in a Linux environment it is recommended to take the course "Computing skills for biotechnology" or "Essentials for bioinformatics data analysis" first.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students are able to write small programs using variables, conditions, loops, and various functions to solve every-day programming tasks related to data analysis. Computational thinking will be augmented.
