Content

The lecture covers different processes relevant for agriculture from a physical and chemical point of view.
Prerequisite to the lectures are the very basics of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The following topics are planned to be elaborated:
Rheology of biological materials
surface energy of liquids
temperature gradients in soil
flow forces
physics of drying
flow under high and low Reynold numbers
destillation procedures
extraction techniques
composting

1. Methods to characterise physical properties

2. Mechanical behaviour of natural materials

3. The physics of drying

Content of the lecture is not pre-determined but may vary according to the interests of the students

Previous knowledge expected

Basic university courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The student is able to understand the physics and chemical aspects behind some processes that are relevant for characterization, treatment, processing and storage of agricultural goods
