.

Previous knowledge expected

It is expected that the students have visited the lecture "Crop Nutritional Physiology - 951333" and are familiar with the principals of plant nutrition including topics such as nutrient and water acquisition by plants, nutrient transport in plants, functions of mineral nutrients, and interactions between root system traits and acquisition of soil resources.
.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Completion of this practical course on crop nutritional physiology will make the students familiar with methodologies and techniques for investigating responses of crop plants to mineral nutrients.
Students will
•describe the suitable methods for seed germination, plant tissue nutrient analysis, and screening of root traits;
•list the steps to be taken into account when conducting hydroponic experiments;
•identify deficiency symptoms associated with individual macro- and micronutrients;
•explain the physiological mechanisms underlying crop plant responses to nutrient deficiencies;
•apply technical skills in crop nutritional physiology to identify and interpret mineral nutrient deficiencies.
.
