Content

The course will describe the steps required to move a drug candidate into the clinical phase of drug development and cover the pertinent regulatory aspects. This requires an understanding of the general principles of pharmacology in particular

• the mechanisms of drug action and its quantification (pharmacodynamics)
• absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) of drugs (pharmakokinetics) and
• its quantitative description

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After completion of this course, a student is familiar with the principles underlying drug development; she or he is able to outline a work plan to move a hypothetical compound though the preclinical stages of drug development and understand the potential pitfalls.
