Content

The Social Value of Landscape (under construction ;).

We examine and work on housing estates from the 1970s
- one in Budapest (to be announced) and one in Vienna (Rennbahnweg 27, 1220 Vienna),
- discuss the social, functional, urban planning and ecological significance of open spaces in housing then and now and
- elaborate development scenarios for these open spaces.

Tasks of the Design workshops in Vienna and Budapest:
- on site survey and analysis
- analysis of historic material
- design concepts reflecting the historic design concept and responding to current challenges

Schedule:
- two preparatory meetings in Vienna/on-line in March/April (to be announced)
- Design workshop in Vienna: May, 6 to 8 and May, 10, 2024
- Design workshop in Budapest: June, 3 to 7, 2024
- final presentation on-line: end of June (to be announced)

Jan. 14th, 2021: Due to the ongoing restrictions in the course of the COVID pandemic and ambiguities on the site, the schedule and the on-site workshop might be postponed (probably to September 2021). We are trying to fix the schedule by early February 2021.

Please be aware that you have to take care of travel booking yourself. Minor support by the ÖH BOKU will be provided.

Previous knowledge expected

Students must have design experience on urban and object level. Skills in drawing and visualisation are prerequisites. They must be on a master level. For BOKU students the following mastercourses are prerequisites:

852.113 - CAD-Projekt
852.318 - Landschaftsarchitektur II
855107 - Introduction to urbanism (recommended)
852006 - Contemporary Urbanism (recommended)
852.315 - Theorie und Methodik zur Landschaftsarchitektur (recommended)

Strengthen design competence, applying different methods of site reading and interpretation;
