In this elective course we will elaborate how various products are generated by the use of cellular organisms.
We will select products from cosmetics industry, pharmaceutical industry or demonstrate new approaches where the chemical industry is supplemented by biological processes.
Each student can choose one biotechnological product and will be provided with basic information/literature. The accumulated knowledge is presented to the group and discussed by the students.

Different fields which deal with biotechnological approaches for the conversion of raw material and the generation of final products are introduced.
After having passed this elective course the students are able
- to classify biotechnological products and biological applications
- to explain the cornerstones for the development of a product or a process
- to translate gaind basic knowledge into technology
- to estimate the value of methods and techniques
- to read scientific/technical articles and present their content in seminars.
