Soil functions; physical, chemical and biological buffering and transformations in soils; soil erosion by water and wind; physical and chemical impacts on soil; Austrian Soil Inventory; soil protection regulations in Austria; soil protection measures.

After successful completion of the course participants will be able to:
- define and describe the main land degradation processes in agriculture
- identify key soil health parameters per target agro-environment
- develop a soil health monitoring campaign
- estimate soil erosion amounts and according land degradation risk for a given agro-environment
- select and design Sustainable Land Management practices per agro-environmental context
