Content

The course starts by providing an overview of properties that plants must possess in order to be useful for soil-bioengineering purposes. From this, a list of the most frequently used plants in soil- bioengineering is obtained, and a describtion given to the methods of their use.

The basic of technological and biological plant properties is followed by information on practical applications in flowing water, to reinforce slopes and gullies and to drainage slopes.

Other subjects are measures to stabilise landslides and revegetation methods above the tree line.

Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The subject of soil-bioengineering describes the technique and use of plants for measures to stabilise riverbanks, slopes and gullies. The aim of the course is to develop a practical understanding of many applications of soil-bioengineering methods and to learn their limits.
