MOVEMENT ECOLOY OF ANIMALS
What are the causes and consequences of animal movement? How do animals navigate through their environment? How do humans affect movement decisions of animals? - These and many other questions will be addressed during this course.
Besides theoretical concepts and examples from a variety of species, this course will present different methods for tracking animal movements and introduce data analysis of GPS-tracking data using the software R.
NEW INFO:
This course is a combination of lectures and hands on data analysis in R. Before the course starts, I will provide a list of papers from which each participant can pick one and present its content as a 5-min presentation during the Wildlife Lectures. To make sure all students have a similar level of experience with R, everyone is required to work through a few online tutorials (estimated time effort 4-6 hours) until January 10.
During the course I will make different GPS-tracking data available and students in groups of 2-3 will develop small projects that include the formulation of a research question, data analysis and a 10-min presentation of the project on Friday.
