General introduction followed by specific lectures on

Caenorhabditis elegans,

Dictyostelium discoideum,

plant, fish and yeast models,

mice and fruitflies as well as post-translational modifications in these species.

It is planned that students spend some time also ´getting to know´ these organisms in a lab setting.

THIS LECTURE IS HELD EVERY TWO YEARS

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will appreciate the advantages/disadvantages of using mice, fish, plants, flies, nematodes, yeast and amoeba as genetic model organisms with a focus on the biotechnological and biomedical aspects.
