Content

daylong fieldtrip in the Burgenland (at any weather).

Visit, analyse and discuss greenbridges near Gattendorf and the construction of a bridge at the river Thaya covering the aspects of the "RVS Wildschutz", "RVS Amphibienschutz", connecting habitat structures to the bridges (woods, hedges, meadows...) for animals, roadfencing, tunnels for amphibians and passages for other small animals, large -scale corridors for wildlife passages.

Visit and inspect and analyse a wind power plant in respect to their impact on wildlife populations.

Visit and analyse meadow of the habitat management area "Spitzerberg"

Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

students should learn practical knowledge in the area biotope and habitat management. They should learn and assess the role/impact of landscape planning and infrarstructure construction (e.g. streets, railway, wind power plants) in respect to animal populations and their ecology, alternatives and solutions will be analysed and discussed. Measures to compensate constructions shall be known and discussed in context with the existing biotop structures and populations). Also aspects of large scale acting structures on animals shall be known and discovered in the field The theoretical background of different management measures of meadows shall be known and be applicable in the field. Structures of landscapes are changing over time and the implications to future management of the area should be identified in the field.
