Quantitative and qualitative determination of sugars;

Thin layer chromatography;

Desalting by gel filtration;

preparation of an enzyme extract;

Dialysis;

Determination of an enzyme activity;

pH and temperature dependence of an enzyme;

Enzyme kinetics / determination of the Km value;

Determination of protein concentration;

Molar mass determination by gel electrophoresis;

Qualitative and quantitative determination of biomolecules by HPLC;
Previous knowledge expected

Demonstrated laboratory experience in general, inorganic, analytical and instrumental chemistry; Theoretical knowledge of biochemistry.
Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students master the most important biochemical working techniques (gel filtration, thin-layer chromatography, precipitation, dialysis, SDS-PAGE, photometric measurements for enzyme kinetics and protein concentration determination, HPLC), can use these independently and present and correctly interpret the data obtained.
After successful completion of "Biochemische Übungen I", students will be well prepared to work in a biochemical/analytical laboratory.
