Cultural Landscape in Transition in Upper Austria Central Region
Currently, metropolitan areas around the world are growing at a rapid pace. In Upper Austria, this particularly affects the Linz metropolitan area. Building density as a spatial planning goal often comes into conflict with the preservation of human quality of life, natural diversity of life and the urban ecological life-support systems of soil, water and climate. Concrete examples are used to address the landscape management goals of 1. preserving the old natural and cultural heritage, 2. supplementing impaired gone habitat elements, and 3. renewing missing landscape structures. What are key habitats in a cultural landscape, how can concrete species protection be effective in a dynamic landscape, what are the structural requirements for nature-oriented green space management in communities? The excursion is planned for three days and will focus on Linz, Wilhering and Traun. In Linz and Traun, an urban ecology implementation program has been taking place for years, while Wilhering was a pilot municipality at the UN summit in Johannesburg twenty years ago because of its active citizen participation and has implemented numerous environmental projects.

Arrival and mobility during the excursion will be by public transport, accommodation is planned in Traun.
The excursion will take place from 20th to 22nd October
