Content

In Wieselburg and possibly also in Tulln or Groß-Enzersdorf, techniques for site-specific management are to be learned, understood, applied and evaluated hand-on and in the field. In any case, site-specific N-fertilization, variable tillage depth and sowing density, and possibly also plant protection will be treated as fields of application. For this purpose, together with colleagues from Wieselburg, the technical basics, the available technology as well as the possibility of processing and preparing the collected data/information will be presented and explained. Subsequently, application in selected crops will be discussed and, if possible, the application of e.g. fertilization for a crop standing in the field will be carried out. Finally, methods for assessing the economics of the techniques are presented and possible payback periods for the technique are discussed.

Basic knowledge in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy and Agricultural Economics

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students know the most important areas of application of site-specific management in crop production and the technical means and methods required for this (sensors, maps, GPS, machine control, data processing...). The students are able to explain the individual steps during the planning and implementation of a site-specific management measure (e.g. fertilization) and to discuss alternative strategies. The students are able to evaluate investments in site-specific management from a business management point of view.
