Content

This course is implemented as a summer school in refugee-host communities in Northern Uganda together with students of MUNI University, Arua.
It combines all fields of learning at BOKU-IDR:
concepts of gender and governance in research and practice;
applied research using participatory methods;
transdisciplinary collaboration;
intensive experiential learning.

What you will do:
#prepare in 4 seminars (online or in presence for BOKU students) at BOKU for the stay in Northern Uganda - tentative dates: 1 information and introductory meeting in March; 4 seminars (2-3 hours each) in May and June - dates to be announced
#spend 2 weeks in Uganda at the beginning of July (tentatively 5th-19th July, dates to be confirmed) to learn how to investigate realities of gender and natural resource governance

Previous knowledge expected

Not obligatory, but recommended: all courses of the IDR, and in particular
934300 Gender, food systems and natural resources;
934301 Gender, nutrition and right to food;
934317 Participatory methods in development research and practice.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

- Understanding of gender, intersectionality and governance of natural resources.
- Basic understanding of and experience with qualitative date collection methods
- Introduction to and use of systems and scenario development
- Introduction to and use of action research and participatory methods in gender, intersectionality and governance of natural resources practice
- contributions to scientific research (ongoing PhD research)
- applying a transdisciplinary and actor-oriented approach in a field setting
