Case studies will be used to learn how to evaluate changes of soil properties and processes (and their influence on ecosystem services) under global change in the short- and long-term.
Theory: Introduction to three topics: (i) measuring and modelling nutrient turnover and GHG emissions in the course of extreme weather events (ii) modelling of pedogenesis under global change, (iii) assessing soil threats and ecosystem services at the EU-level.
Exercises: getting acquainted with tools and measurement devices to assess soil changes under global change over time and space on the basis of case studies.
- Previous knowledge expected
-
Student has obtained knowledge on pedology, soil physics, soil chemistry and soil genetic processes, and application of soil data in land information systems.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Experience in the construction and evaluation of scenario studies on soils under global change.
Application of simulation and measurement tools and geographical information systems for assessing changes in soil properties and processes under global change.
