Content

1. sediment regime (definition of sediments, relevance for water management and ecology, origin of sediments, development of sediment transport over time)

2. landscape forming function of sediment transport (catchment development, processes at hills, rivers and indundation areas)

3. river morphology (origin of rivers, classification, regime theory, models)

4. suspended and bedload transport (initiation of motion, bedforms, modeling etc.)

5. influence of wood on river morphology

6. paleohydrology

7. anthropogenic infuences and practical solutions

8. national and international examples

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The aims of this lecture are to present the basic knowledge necessary to solve problems related with sediment transport and river morpholgy. The lack and surplus of sediments leads to the very actual problem of river bed degradation and reservoir sedimentation with ecological, technical and economical negative consequences. In the lecture processes are discussed and help to understand this problem and to find solutions.
