Based on the knowledge of chemistry and waste management the following topics are highlighted in this lecture: chemical composition of waste materials and their reactivity potential, their role in the environment, analytical methods and the legal basis for waste analyses.
Students get knowledge in this area and are able to apply their knowledge to practical problems (e.g. procedure of sampling and analyses according to Austrian regulations). They exhibit the skill to recognize interrelations and to integrate waste related aspects into general environmental issues (e.g. the greenhouse effect and climate change). Students are able to derive necessary analyses and measures in waste management from chemical properties of waste materials. They figure out the principles of analytical methods applied in waste management practice. Students know how to identify problems in waste analytics and how to challenge existing measures. They are able to develop solutions.
