This course tackles the issue of the responsibility of corporation in our society, especially regarding their contribution towards sustainable development. We will start by defining corporate responsibility and business ethics. We will discuss the influence of globalization on businesses, how corporate responsibility can be managed and its place in corporate governance. We will review ways to engage with stakeholders. And we will close by considering trends affecting the future of corporate responsibility.

Previous knowledge expected

Basic knowledge of the role of organisations in society (e.g. the differences with government and civil society); Knowledge about the major sustainability challenges in western societies.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students who have completed the course are able to:
+) distinguish between various approaches to corporate responsibility
+) draft proposals to implement measures of corporate responsibility
+) recognise the ethical dimension of business choices.
