Content

The fieldwork lasts about 1 week and is partly carried out in the form of field practicals. The experimental site is a section of river and its surroundings. The following activities have to be carried out by the students and must be documented in the form of a project report; measurements of flow velocity in three directions and of average speed, basic river bottom measurements, mapping, investigations of the substrate, and groundwater observations. Dependent on the particular site in question, the students are also required to establish the relationships between abiotic and biotic parameters. Normally, the investigations are carried out in the context of a river restructuring project.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The aim of the fieldwork is to demonstrate hydrological measurement procedures in practice. The students should gain an overview of available measurement methods and their reliability.
