Introduction of the similarity laws – similarity conditions on the hydraulic engineering scale models – short and long models with fix and movable bed. The course participants, divided in small groups, conduct autonomous the model tests in the laboratory. Following procedure should be applied: Problem definition – model set-up – accomplishment of test series – discussion of results – results presentation in form of the written report.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
During the course the students will get comprehensive information on the role of scale models in hydraulic engineering. The similarity laws will be introduced and appropriate measuring techniques applied. Models in the hydraulic laboratory will be tested.
After successful completion of the course, the students are able to identify a hydraulic problem which has to be solved by means of a scale model. They are familiar with the set-up of the model, measuring process, interpretation of the test results and their application in the prototype scale.
