This course focuses on topics from the field of process engineering in livestock production. It builds upon the content of the lecture courses “Fundamentals of Agricultural Engineering” (931.103) and “Agrophysics” (892.102), teaching various aspects of animal production with a combined lecture and group work approach. One primary objective of the course is to communicate information on sub-areas of livestock production, as well as the functions of and interactions between various individual technologies.
This course is interdisciplinary: it covers process engineering elements (through a detailed look at process engineering aspects of agricultural engineering), livestock production (determining the technical requirements of species-appropriate livestock production), as well as sustainability aspects (evaluating environmental impacts and future viability). The course’s primary aim is not simply to communicate detailed information on agricultural engineering, but rather to contribute to a critical evaluation of processes and challenges in the selected fields of application.
The prerequisite for participation in the course is a basic knowledge of agricultural physics, agricultural engineering, and agricultural and livestock production.

Upon positive completion of the course, students will be able to:
•Understand various specialized topics in the field of agricultural engineering
•Understand the functions of technological systems and the interactions between various technologies
•Understand and determine the connections between technological implementation and the requirements/behavior of livestock
•Evaluate technologies and determine their advantages and disadvantages
•Understand how various individual systems can be combined into an integrated process
