Content

Introduction to wood technology as the discipline for the understanding of technical processes to convert the sustainable raw material wood into materials and products.
Survey on the "mechanical" conversion of Wood (lignocellulosic raw materials) to materials and products
Wood and natural fibre drying and steaming, fundamentals, drying processes and techniques, control systems and drying quality
Wood modification as a precondition for further processes and/or functionalisiation of the material.
Glueing: adhesives and adhesion. Fundamentals and application
Wood milling and disintegration technologies- a basic survey (linked to wood machining)
Surface coating and various Technologies
Wood Technology related standards
Technology forsight, technology development and technology concepts (challenges and opportunities)

Previous knowledge expected

knowledge in wood material physics and thermodynamics

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Knowledge of the most important mechanical technologies for wood processing and manufacturing. Basic understanding of the conversion process from the raw material wood to wood-based materials and products.
