Structure of immune receptors; defintion and processing of antigens/immunogens; prerequisites for antigen binding; hematopoietic stem cells; immune cells (B-, T-, dendritic cells); growth and differentiation factors; cell cooperation.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After having passed this lecture successfully students are able to explain the basics of cellular components forming the natural (innate) and adaptive immune system. They can describe stem cells, differentiation into functional end cells as well as their functions and products and explain their provision with surface molecules enabling the specific recognition and reaction of antigen present on microbial or other pathogens. Furthermore they can discuss the prerequisites and mechanisms of the humoral and cellular defense mechanisms and the conditions to be met for initiating the specific immune response.
