Content

We will work one day (Monday) in the field in the Forest Demonstration Centre Rosalia (transport organized by the course). We will perform flux measurements from manual cuvettes in order to assess the microbial production of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane) and soil samples will be collected.
Soil samples will be processed in the lab during the rest of the week. Soil microbiological methods include, among others, microbial biomass Carbon (Cmic) and Nitrogen (Nmic), inorganic forms of nitrogen (ammonium and nitrate), reducing sugars, soil respiration via titration. The data will be statistically evaluated, interpreted and presented in oral presentations.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
- Explain a set of main methods used in the field of soil microbiology.
- Apply classical methods in soil microbiology in the lab.
- Interpret soil microbiological data, including interrelations between different variables
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
