Building on the knowledge learned in Silviculture 1 of the winter semester, there is a block of in-depth silvicultural lectures, followed by exercises and excursions to various forest sites in Austria. The teaching content of the winter semester is applied using examples. Practical teaching of forest management procedures, thinning, forest regeneration, protection forest management, etc. The class ends with 4 day excursion to forest companies to discuss forest management in central Europe.

Participants should have basic knowledge in Silviculture as it is taught in the Sivlculture class in the Wintger semester.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Overarching goal of this course is to make students familiar with an ecosystem approach to forest management. The course covers the required knowledge to define silvicultural objectives at stand level, and to maintain, regenerate, restore, tend and utilize temperate forest ecosystems. During the winter term the course provides the theoretical foundations of silviculture. In the summer term focus is on practical training and hands on examples in the field in various forest types.
