What is soil? The factors of soil formation; the main soil constituents; physico-chemical characteristics; soil biology; soil as poröus system; soils in centre of compound fluxes (water, gases, nutrients, pollutants); soio classification; specific part for KTWW.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The objective is to impart pedological basic knowledge. Soil physics, -chemistry and - biology as well as the functions of soils in ecosystems stand in the foreground. This should enable students to understand complex relationships between soil characteristics and soil processes as basic of soil functions. The specific part for the KTWW students after the basic lecture block together with AW und LAP/LA focusses to technical characteristics of soils as plant producers as well as for environmental issues. The acqired knowledge provides an important basis for further lectures during the KTWW study and should help students to handle civil engineering issues from a pedological point of view. The students acquire competence to take over resposibility for the sensitive soil system.
