After completing this course and passing the exam the students should understand the general factors involved in enzymatic reaction mechanisms. In particular, the similarity between organic reactions, functional groups and the reactive groups in the active centre of enzymes will be appreciated as well as the mechanistic similarity between degrading and polymerizing enzymes. The students will also be familiar with the three-dimensional aspects of enzymatic reactions using examples from the protein database and nmr spectroscopy
