Content

Effector proteins of fungi and oomycetes and their role in virulence.

Role of fungal secondary metabolites and thier mode of action in plants.

Defense mechanisms in plants, signal transduction and role of induced proteins.

Chemical inactivation of fungal metabolites by plant enzymes

Novel methods: fungal and plant genomics, metabolomics ...

.

Previous knowledge expected

Ideally participants have already basic knwoledge from VO Molecular biology of plant-pathogen interactions (or equeivalent) - but this is not a formal entry requirement.
.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The participants obtain an overview about the current status of the field and current open research questions and hot topics. They select a current publication which is breaking new ground or is reporting a relevant technical advance. Participants extract the most relevant information and prepare a powerpoint presentation and deliver a clear takehome message to fellow students.
