introduction to basic chemistry: atoms and molecules, compounds, bonding systems, chemical reactions, reaction in aqueous solution, stoichiometry, properties of elements, basic concepts of chemical bonding, gases, liquids and solids, (bio)materials , chemistry of the environment, electrochemistry, radioactivity, organic and biological chemistry (incl. introduction to biochemistry)
Discussion of papers dealing with chemical issues related to forestry (soil chemistry, carbon- and nitrogen cycle, effects of burning, efeects of fertilization, wood chemistry, water chemistry, chemistry of the atmosphere and impact on forests)
- Previous knowledge expected

the students have a basic understanding of chemical reactions occuring in our daily life
and a basic understanding of biochemical processes occuring in nature. Students have the ability to handle forestry related chemical data and informations for discission making.
