Content

The role of fungal and insect diseases in mountain forests and afforestations at high altitudes; biology and special adaptation of species occurring at high elevations; demonstration as well as macroscopic and microscopic examination of frequent and/or important high altitude forest tree diseases and insect pests; differential diagnosis of plant symptoms and field disease signatures including abiotic damages; predisposing factors and the role of provenances; risks of the introduction of new diseases and insect pests into mountain forests and afforestations at high altitudes; methods of monitoring, prognosis, risk assessment & pest management of specific diseases in mountain forests

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Basic knowledge on forest tree diseases occurring in mountain forests and afforestations at high altitudes caused by fungi, insects and abiotic factors, which endanger stability and/or the regenerative capacity of the ecosystem; specific disease symptoms, pathogenesis and host-pathogen-environment-relationships; strategies of disease prevention
